The Hot Pink Party in Boston

Art, science, and music coalesced when The Breast Cancer Research Foundation hosted its annual The Hot Pink Party at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston on October 9, 2007. The eventful evening, honoring the 19 New England-based grant recipients, raised more than $430,000.

A symposium moderated by Dr. Larry Norton on the topic of Genes, Cells, and Cancer: The Basic Knowledge of Life opened the evening and featured BCRF researchers Robert A. Weinberg, PhD, William G. Kaelin, Jr., MD, Charlotte Kuperwasser, PhD, and 2006 Nobel Laureate, Craig C. Mello, PhD.

After the symposium, Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino and his wife Stacey, and Museum of Fine Arts Director Malcolm Rogers, joined BCRF President Myra Biblowit to "flip the switch," illuminating the MFA in pink in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The 370 guests at the party were then treated to a performance by country music artist Lori McKenna. Kelley Tuthill, NewsCenter 5 reporter, received the first Boston Humanitarian Award for movingly chronicling her own breast cancer treatment on air. The award was presented by Elisha Daniels, a breast cancer survivor.

Thank you to the dedicated event co-chairs Elisha Daniels, Sandra Krakoff, Judith Schlager, Linda Waintrup and Karen Webster and underwriters, Coach, Sara Campbell LTD, and the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation.
