The Pink Bracelet Fund
The Pink Bracelet Fund®, an all volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was formed in October 2004 when Melissa Etheridge announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
As Melissa fans, we wondered what we could do to help support Melissa during this difficult time in her life. within a few days, we had a website set up and were selling bracelets inscribed with a famous Melissa quote, "Be Strong", to show our support for her as she battled this disease.
In October 2004, we sold 20,000 bracelets. By the end of 2004, our sales totaled 33,000. Unfortunately, the market became flooded with all kinds of charity bracelets and we were but one of many. Sales and donations dropped significantly and we struggled to even keep the organization going.
However, five years later, our mission and the method to achieve that mission remain the same. Our goal is to raise much needed funds for research in Melissa's name, and to raise awareness.
As of September 30, 2009, we have sold over 90,000 bracelets and donated a total of $210,500 to research. For more information about The Pink Bracelet Fund or to purchase your own bracelet, visit www.pbfund.org.
