Blooming Forever Tulip Auction
Beginning Monday, June 1, at 10:00am EST and ending Monday, June 15 at 12.00pm EST, Blooming Forever, a company registered in The Netherlands, will hold a unique auction of a new tulip variety, to benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. BCRF has chosen the Silver Collection Tulip as the one to be offered for auction. 100% of auction proceeds will be donated to BCRF.
The winning bidder, in addition to receiving the tulip stock, will be the owner of this new tulip variety and will also own the right to name the tulip.
A naming ceremony, organized by Blooming Forever, will be a part of the purchase. Blooming Forever will register the tulip under the bidder's chosen name in The International Classified Register of Tulip Names. This 400-year-old register, held by The Royal Dutch Flower Bulb Organization, contains all tulip names ever registered. The person or organization who names the tulip will therefore "Bloom Forever!"
A new tulip variety, when properly managed, can have a commercial value of 45,000 euro (approx. $63,900)
