Pink Is The New Black
In 2008, Scarsdale High School Juniors, Danielle Pack and Zoe Katz, partnered with Bloomingdale's in White Plains, NY to put on "Pink Is The New Black: Strutting Our Stuff to Eliminate Breast Cancer", a student fashion show in memory of Zoe's mother who died in 2004 and Danielle's aunt who died in 1993. The 2008 event was such a success that the girls were able to run "Pink Is the New Black 2" in 2009 (pictured above, and below.)
"We know that we are not the only ones who have been affected by breast cancer and it is important that we do all that we can to fight it. To us, that means strutting our stuff on the runway."--

Modeling the most recent styles from Bloomingdales' Y.E.S department, including Marc Jacobs and Diane Von Furstenberg for the ladies, and Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren for the men, each event included over thirty Scarsdale High School student models. In addition, each year the girls involved local Westchester businesses with a silent auction or raffle, and the Scarsdale High School community with the support of over two hundred parents and teachers in attendance.
With participation from all different aspects of Scarsdale, the events helped to not only raise funds for BCRF but also to raise awareness about breast cancer throughout their community.
After the 2009 event Zoe and Danielle's parents commented, "They took the ball and ran with it. They took a negative and turned it into something positive. And they dedicated this to Zoe's mom and Danielle's aunt. It's very moving."
The two credit their teachers, Ben Sawyer and Rashid Silvera, the public relations manager at Bloomingdale's, Meryl Lefkowitz, as well as their fashion-show committee of about 50 friends and volunteers for helping them put on the show.
Combined, the 2008 and 2009 events raised over $39,000 for BCRF and, as the girls head off to college, they hope to pass the torch to younger friends to continue to support the fight against breast cancer.
