First Union Rail - Monthly Lunches
The charity committee at First Union Rail organized monthly lunches to benefit different charities. Nancy Kirstein, the chair-person of the April luncheon, decided to make BCRF the beneficiary of that month's luncheon, and she did a spectacular job!
Nancy split the office into four divisions, and each Wednesday in April, one group hosted a luncheon for the rest of the employees, selling their food for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Each "Wednesday group" had a sub-chairman in charge of getting all the employees involved, planning their menu, getting the word to the employees, and setting/cleaning up. Most of the food was prepared by the employees and donated - which is how they managed to raise so much money for BCRF. These are the different luncheons which were held:
Week 1: Sales/Administration
Italian fare (lasagna, Italian sausage, meatballs, pasta, salad)
Week 2: Mechanical Department
Deli fare (sub sandwiches, soup, salads)
Week 3: Car Hire/Accounting
Picnic fare - pictured (fried chicken, sloppy joes, chicken salad, etc)
Week 4: IT/Documentation
International fare (samosas, green tea eggs, white cloud chicken, bratwurst, gyros, spring rolls, beef BBQ, rice sides, etc)
The event was a hit! Each Wednesday, everyone was excited to have an affordable lunch with homemade food - and even something they may not have eaten before. The whole event was a great deal of fun, and at the end of the month,
their efforts raised $4,471.92 for BCRF.
