About the Tempe, AZ Bunco for Breast Cancer Tournament
In 2005, Brenda Young and her team took the idea of Bunco For Breast Cancer to a whole new level by partnering with local businesses to organize a special BFBC Tournament! With the help of her close friends, Brenda organized what is believed to be the largest ever Bunco For Breast Cancer tournament. She said the idea came to her after she found Bunco For Breast Cancer on the internet. "It was really a nice way to get together, and meet and chat and catch up with friends, so for me it was a way of planning something that would be fun." The local section of The Arizona Republic, showing Brenda (center) with (left) Tracy Smith and Lisa Wahlin, and (right)Rebeca Farm and Brandye Billeter, provided some helpful publicity.

Brenda became aware of the need for research through her sister's battle with breast cancer. "I had just had my daughter six months prior to getting the phone call. It kind of really hit me hard." Brenda and her team's hard work was well rewarded when she announced that 99 women had played in the Tournament, generating $4,410 for breast cancer research funding through BCRF!

The 2006 Tournament that took place on Sunday, April 23rd, raised $6,880 for breast cancer research, and welcomed 144 women to play in the tournament. The impressive increase in contributions resulted from the support given by the participants, local businesses and "ghost" entries (from people unable to participate on the day.)

The Third Annual Tournament in 2007 raised $9,000--about a 33% increase over the previous year. The total number of registered players was 175! The weather was perfect for a day of fun, food and dice on the remodeled and enlarged patio of Macayo's Depot Cantina. Door and Raffle prizes were awarded including a couple of auction items.
