Federal Funding Cuts, February 2007

Open Letter sent from BCRF grantee, Robert L. Comis, MD, on behalf of the Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups

BCRF grantee Robert L. Comis, MD, who represents both the Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups (the umbrella group for the 10 US cooperative groups that sponsor and carry out national clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute) and one of CCCG's member groups, the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, has sent an open letter to colleagues in the cancer community. The letter describes the impact of federal funding cuts on vital clinical trials.

Read the text of the letter here, including reports from USA Today and CBS Evening News.
BCRF supports these important national clinical trials through its grants to the CCCG and its member groups. These federal funding cutbacks mean that private support of clinical research, through organizations such as BCRF, is more crucial now than ever before. We are proud to uphold our support of clinical trials. Please continue to support BCRF so that vital, lifesaving research will continue.

BCRF support of the Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups is generously acknowledged in a story on Page 3 of CCCG's 2006 Milestones Newsletter. To download the Newsletter, >>click here and go to Page 3.

Read the article in the Wall Street Journal, 2/7/07, about funding concerns among Cancer Cooperative Groups.
