Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups: Open Letter

Open letter from BCRF grantee, Robert L. Comis, MD, on behalf of the Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups:
February 2, 2007

Dear Friends:

The Cancer Cooperative Groups, whose research is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, are the subject of current national news coverage due to federal funding cuts. The ten US groups (nine adult groups and one pediatric group) may have to close or delay as many as 95 trials this year - nearly half of the trials that these groups conduct each year. The cuts will affect up to 3,000 cancer patients, who will likely not be offered the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial for the treatment of their cancer.
