Background
In 1996, a group of ladies at Alpine Country Club in northern New Jersey started an organization called Play for T.I.M.E. (Technology, Immediate diagnosis, Mammography, Effective treatment), when one of their friends was diagnosed with breast cancer. They organized a golf tournament in her honor so that the proceeds could go to breast cancer research. The tournament was so successful that it became an annual event at Alpine, and soon friends at neighboring country clubs began hosting the Play for T.I.M.E. tournaments.
The following year, six clubs held tournaments and raised $77,000.
Since then, groups of volunteers and participants have spread across the United States, playing golf, tennis, cards and swimming to raise money for the BCRF!
In November 2004, Play For T.I.M.E. officially changed its name to Play for P.I.N.K, and launched an aggressive recruitment drive to sign up new clubs in different areas of the country in any area where a group of enthusiastic volunteers can work through their local clubs to host a successful Play For P.I.N.K. tournament.
